Adana AirportAdana Şakirpaşa Airport - Turkish: Adana Şakirpaşa Havalimanı is an airport located in the city of Adana in the Adana Province of Turkey. Adana Airport was opened to service as one of the dual purpose or civil-military airports of Turkey in 1937 and it started to be used as a civil-only airport in 1956. It is 3.5 kilometers away from the city center of Adana. Adana Şakirpaşa Airport has an annual capacity of 3,000,000 passengers in a 2,105,510 square meter area. The airport is serviced by THY, Pegasus, Onur Air, AtlasJet, FlyAir, SunExpress, and AnadoluJet Airlines. In 2010 it handled 2,841,220 passengers with 2,417,680 being domestic passengers and 423,540 being international passengers. Transportation to and from the airport is by Bus, Shuttle or Taxi with VIP transfer services available. Arriving passengers are offered a few different options for traveling into the heart of Adana, which is about 4 kilometers from the airport. Travel arrangements can be made through a variety of local transportation companies, which offer taxi, shuttle and charter bus services. In addition, several rental car agencies have desks within Adana Şakirpaşa Airport

Adana AirportThe final approach to Adana Şakirpaşa Airport descends over the translucent blue waters that earned the eastern Mediterranean shoreline its nickname of the Turquoise Coast. With the Taurus Mountains in the background and the fine-sand beaches stretching miles upon miles along the coast the city of Adana is located on the Seyhan River about 30 kilometres inland from the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey. Adana Şakirpaşa Airport serves more than 2 million passengers each year through at least a dozen airlines from around the world. All flights to Adana Şakirpaşa Airport operate through two main terminals designated as Domestic and International. Upon arrival, passengers will find a range of facilities and services available to satisfy their travel needs. A variety of restaurants, cafeterias and bars offer a place to relax while enjoying tasty meals and refreshing beverages. The duty-free shops feature gifts, souvenirs and other travel essentials. Amenities include an on-site post office, a business center, a VIP lounge, first-aid services, baby changing facilities and a news/tobacco stand. Smoking is now no longer permitted within the terminals.

Adana AirportAdana Şakirpaşa Airport is rather small and deals with flights scheduled in close proximity creating rush hour circumstances. The only way to handle your arrival or departure is to go with the flow of the chaos. Since airport staff deal with mainly locals the etiquette generally associated with international travel don't always apply. So you may find that there is a lot of cutting in lines and rushing around through security with a limited amount of English being spoken - so it helps to know a few key words and phrases in Turkish. On arrival taxis are available to take you to your destination. The airport is only a few miles away from the downtown area so taxi fare is reasonable. There is no set protocol on tipping the driver but if you find his service commendable then a 5YTL tip is acceptable. A recommended taxi service to contact is Gate Taxi at +90.322.316.TAXI as they will speak better English than the regular airport taxi drivers. Upon arrival find a phone in the terminal and just dial 322.316.TAXI. Taxi services from your hotel can take you easily to the airport. Check with your hotel and see if they provide a transportation since it can be more cost effective. Even though the airport is rather small there a few cafes on the upper level. They are local kebab cafeteria kiosks that offer tasty turkish food at a reasonable price.

Adana AirportThis modern city of Adana is located beside the bank of Seyhan River in the Çukurova plain and is the fourth largest city in Turkey. The famous military airbase of Incirlik (NATO) is located about 7 miles east of the city with about 1,500 military members being assigned there. Incirlik Air Base Passenger Terminal at the base is for military personnel and their immediate family members. Lodging for arrivals at Incirlik is on site at the award-winning Hodja Inn - a Turkish run base hotel. Adana is also one of the largest cities in Asia Minor and the gateway to the Çukurova plain - one of the most productive parts of Turkey and the in the entire world agriculturally. Adana Şakirpaşa Airport is a chaotic airport to say the least, yet it is not as bad as the airports in some of the middle eastern countries that surround it. If you can speak Turkish you can contact the airport at the Adana Şakirpaşa Airport Switchboard at: Phone: 0322 435 03 80 and if you cannot speak the language you can make inquiry by Fax: 0322 435 91 26. Adana AirportOther modes of travel to Adana can be found but are time consuming. Reliable train service operates between Istanbul's Haydarpasa train station (on the Asian side) and Adana. There is one departure daily at 11:50pm. It takes about 19 hours. Cost of a one-way ticket is about $16. The Adana to Istanbul train departs daily from Adana at 2:10pm. The trains are clean, comfortable, air-conditioned and usually have a dining car. We suggest that you purchase tickets directly at Haydarpaşa station in Istanbul or the Adana station - or have a travel agent get the tickets for you. You can also make reservations by phone - but they only speak Turkish. Phone: 322 453 6914. Another way of getting to Adana from Istanbul is to take a motorcoach bus. It will take weeks if not years to get there (so it seems) but it is inexpensive and the buses are clean well maintained and comfortable. There are only two that come highly recommended and they are Varan and the other is Ulusoy Otobus. The buses in Turkey are some of the better public buses you'll find anywhere - they actually have stewards aboard that bring around refreshments and wet washcloths with lemon oil. If you are a bit dodgy about traveling on a bus with no Turkish language skills you can also try Fez Bus which has for many years been closely involved in Turkish and North Cypriot tourism both as a tour operator and travel agent. Only Fez customers and staff are allowed on the Fez buses. Therefore providing extra safety of your luggage and personal effects. Most important you are covered by the Fez Travel TURSAB bond. From the moment you arrive at the airport until the end of your travels they guarantee you a smiling face with an English speaking professional crew who provide you with help along the way.
